Why Relay?

Wondering why you should organize a team and hit the trail? It’s for a better future. Your efforts support the Portage Atlantic's Recovery Trail Project.

Portage provides support to young people in Atlantic Canada who are working to overcome substance abuse and the facility sits on the shores of Cassidy Lake in New Brunswick. Portage believes that outdoor physical activity provides an abundance of positive outcomes. That’s why the Atlantic Recovery Trail Project focuses on enhancing Cassidy Lake’s 3.8 km path to include wheelchair accessibility and provide a safe and picturesque route for walking, running, biking and snowshoeing. The project will provide for the purchase of new recreational equipment to be used on the trail, including mountain bikes and snowshoes.

How It Works

Here's a look at how the team fund raising relay will play out leading up to and including the big day:

• To get your team going, registration will be facilitated by your team captain to pay for the team’s Run Through History entrance fee – Tip: ask your company to sponsor your team entrance fee to start you on your way to a much appreciated fund raising contribution
• Check out our fundraising tips below to get your ideas flowing.
• Every week we’ll touch base with the team captains to see how we may support your efforts to fund raise, share ideas, and celebrate reaching a new fund raising total.
• On the big day when we all come together for the Relay, each of the eight members on one of only twenty teams will take a turn to “stride” (run/walk) a lap of the 2.6 Mile course – Fun fact: check out what your teammates will be up to in the Celebration Village while you take your turn in the park
• If speed is your thing, 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd place awards will be given to best overall team times.
